Green Architectures

The Green Cellular concept is best described as an augmentation of existing wireless and cellular networks with receive only devices. As such, the Green Cellular concept may take many forms, ranging from outdoor macro base stations to indoor femtocells and WiFi access points.
Some places are more sensitive to cellular radiation than others, such as schools and hospitals. In many cases, cellular antennas are installed at a large distance from such locations, in order to minimize the exposure to the radiation from the antennas. However, this results in a higher exposure to radiation from the cellular devices themselves, which transmit with significantly higher power. In such scenarios, the minimal total exposure architecture is obtained by augmenting the network with Green Antennas.

Indoor Green Antennas may be realized by disabling the transmit capabilities of Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), which are often used to provide indoor coverage. The availability of such systems means that a dramatic decrease in radiation from cellular devices, within sensitive locations such as schools, is easy to achieve.
